Aboriginal Studies is a multi-level course that will provide 3 or 5 credits at the 10, 20,, and 30-level. Students will delve into the political and economic organizations of Aboriginal cultures, gain a greater understanding of cultural change as it relates to the Métis, treaties, legislation and schooling, and explore Aboriginal rights, land claims, and self-governance.

NEW - Forensic Studies 25/35 (6 credits)

Come explore the exciting world of Forensic Studies! Students will connect scientific concepts and technologies related to solving crime. Topics covered will include; crime scene investigation, forensics, toxicology and ballistics, police protective equipment, criminal profiling, arson,, and police service canines.

NEW – Creative Writing & Publishing (3 or 5 credits per course)

Creative Writing & Publishing provides students with the opportunity to create original texts and collaborate with peers and the greater writing community. Students will evaluate creative writing markets and the submission process, as well as learn, how to manage the publication process. All levels of creative writers are welcome to join whether you are interested in fiction, non-fiction or simply publication!

Learning Strategies 15, 25, 35 (3 or 5 credits per course)

The curriculum is organized to assist students in becoming actively involved in their learning. Modules of completion lead students to take greater responsibility for homework, develop planning skills, and study skills, and learn how to evaluate their learning process. It includes developing an understanding of themselves as learners, increasing their ability to become organized, managing human and material resources, planning long - and short-term goals, and practicing self-advocacy skills. 

General Psychology 20 (3 credits)

This course traces the historical schools of psychological thought and examines principles of learning, thinking, clinical disorders, and their treatment.

Personal Psychology (3 credits)

In this course, students will explore theories of personality, development, personality testing, intelligence, and biological influences on behavior.

Abnormal Psychology 35 (3 credits)

This course builds on the knowledge gained in Psychology 20. Learn, about the historical emergence of the field of abnormal psychology and the accompanying theories to describe the causes of abnormal behaviour, including biological and environmental factors.

Applied Sociology 30 (3 credits)

Students will objectively analyze phenomena around them to better understand society and its influence on their lives as well as their roles in societal change. Topics include culture, the role of the institution, social movements, deviance, and a project topic of the student’s choice.

Philosophy 20 & 30 IB (6 credits)

Philosophy 20 and 30 are available to students who wish to earn credit in Philosophy IB Standard Level or to motivated and confident students outside the IB program. Completion of this course provides credit in two Alberta Education Social Science courses: Contemporary Western Philosophy 20 and Philosophies of Man 30. The course is a discussion-based course that examines themes related to human nature, human freedom, mind and body, personhood,

ethics, epistemology, philosophy of science, and philosophy of religion.
