Congratulations to our Model UN team for winning “Best Large Delegation "at Sir Winston Churchill’s Model UN Symposium last weekend. A special congratulations to the following students on their individual awards: Aiden D, Nathan H, Devyani B, Zoe M, James Z, Patrick L, Rowan F, Weston W, Joanna Y, Jessie Z, Carina S and Henry W. 

Congratulations to Edward X. for achieving the top score in Canada on the Canada Lynx Mathematical Competition with a perfect score!

2023-2024 Yearbooks – Rideau Park 

For those students who attended Rideau Park School last year, your 2023-2024 Yearbooks have arrived. Please come to the Office at Rideau Park School to pick up your order. 

CALM Online – Term 2 

Students enrolled in CALM Online at Western for Term 2 should be aware that the course begins next Wednesday, October 30th. A mandatory information meeting will be held in Area 4 of the library on the same day, and all enrolled students are expected to attend.  

CAREERS NEXT GENERATION

Join CAREERS NEXT GENERATION and employer partners at James Fowler High School where they will showcase career pathways for Alberta youth.  Students can explore paid partnership opportunities and network with industry experts.

Graduation Photos

Are you in Grade 12? It is time to book graduation photos!  Graduation photos take place here at Western on November 6-8; 14-15 and 18-22. Go to https://prestigeportraits.ca/ and book your date and time.  You need to show up 5 minutes prior to your sitting.  Additional details regarding photos are available via their website.

Quarterfinals game this Thursday at 730 (Hellard Field); please come support your Redhawks.

Wrestling 

On Tuesday, October 29 we will be having an important pre-season meeting at lunch in rm 102.  This meeting is to pick up forms and gain further information for the upcoming season, no experience is necessary and there are no tryouts, if you are willing to put in the time and effort you can be a part of the wrestling team.

January Exam Schedule

Is now posted online on Western Canada’s website.  Hover over Teaching and Learning at the top of the page, then go to Exam Schedule, and the January 2025 schedule link is on the right-hand side. 

January Diploma Re-Writes – If your child would like to re-write a diploma or needs to write one that they missed, please have them make an appointment with Mr. Wiebe BEFORE Nov. 1st, as this is the registration deadline for January diplomas.  They can simply email me at shwiebe@cbe.ab.ca to make the appointment.  Students enrolled in classes at Western do NOT need to register, we will do that for them.  Students who are taking online courses through CBe-Learn will be allowed to register to write at Western (if we have the resources available).  If students are taking a diploma course through any other online institution, they are required to write it at their diploma location.

  • Educational Liaison Association of Alberta (ELAA) Post-Secondary Fair  
    • When: Tuesday October 29th 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm 
    • Where: Western Canada High School – Cafeteria 
    • Students will have the opportunity to connect with post-secondary representatives from across the province. 
  • Ivey Business School (Western University) - Monday November 4th 11:50am – 12:30pm Area 4 in the Library 

French Immersion – Belcanfran Student exchange opportunity 

 Ron and Lise May will be meeting with parents who are interested in enrolling their youngsters with the Belcanfran exchange to France or Belgium for 2025-2026. The information meeting will be at the Haysboro Community Centre on Sunday, November 3, from 2:00-3:30 pm.  

IB Exam Registration Link

if your student is registered in Biology 35IB, Physics 35IB, Math 35IB, Spanish 31IB, Spanish 35IB or any IB subject that will finish this year, please have them follow the link to register for the May IB exams asap.  The deadline is November 7th and late registrations cost an extra $50.  Any student requiring accommodations should also let Ms. Rivers know by November 7thhttps://forms.gle/DoFJP2xSR2eJ4dNd9
