School Message

Hello to our Western families,

There have been some inquiries around the Board messaging that came out the other day connected to changing bell times, and I would like to provide clarification. Despite it seeming that our Monday-Thursday bell times would be adjusted to 3:40 pm, please note that this did not properly take our afternoon tutorial block into consideration. Though we haven’t yet officially calculated the instructional hours for next year, it is anticipated that we will continue with afternoon classes that end at approximately 3:20 pm, as has been the case for the past number of years, and then have a tutorial block after that. (This will all be confirmed towards the end of May.) Because of our downtown location, Western has fewer CTS Express Routes compared to other schools; this obviously allows for various opportunities to get/to from the school rather than relying on a particular time that . If you have any questions about any of this, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Finally, please take note of the City of Calgary construction notice
connected to community drainage improvements that we will be sending out separately. While local residents will have received this independently, we also want to make our broader school community aware, as there could be traffic disruptions around the vicinity of the school over the next several weeks.

Thank you,

Darrin Whitbread, Principal | Western Canada High School
