Competitive Robotics Club Year End Results
This year 60 Western students competed in the world’s largest robotics competition (VEX Robotics). Our 8 teams have put in countless hours throughout the last 7 months developing their engineering solutions to this year’s challenge.
At the Alberta VEX Season Championships all our teams represented Western extremely well, with 5 teams making it to eliminations (finals). After a day of intense competition, we brought home 3 out of the 5 possible awards in our division.
Tournament Champions – given for winning the competitive part of the tournament. Impressively one of our grade 10 teams took home the prize. Congratulations Team 3300G: Graeme W and Ferguson D. |
Design Award - for organized engineering process, with a unique and excellent build design. Given to grade 11 Team 3300C: Aris W, Dependra K, Terence L, Ekam K, Nykin L, Arin J, Jasroop S, Dylan B. |
Judges Award - for their ability to communicate ideas and perseverance to overcome technical challenges. The winners of this award are grade 12 students that have participated and help lead from its inception 3 years ago. Congratulations Team 3300A: Mel X, Zoe N, Maggie L, Francesca T, Annecy W. |
We are proud of all our teams for their time, effort, and accomplishments this season. We look forward to seeing our teams grow on this success next year!
Worlds Event
There are over 20,000 Vex robotics teams across the world. The top 820 teams are selected to compete at the Vex Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas. We are very proud to announce that 3 of our Western Robotics Club student leaders; Andrew Li (Team 210Z), James Zhang (Team 210T), and Alex Su (Team 210F) were selected to represent Alberta.
At the event, the three members from Western Canada High School each made it to eliminations (finals), and Team 210T brought back the Build Award, which recognizes a well-constructed robot built with a high degree of attention to detail to hold up to the rigors of competition. This is an amazing accomplishment as there is only 10 of these awards given out globally. Please congratulate Western student James Z. and his team representing Alberta’s engineering know-how at this event.
