High school student leaders from across CBE gathered for the final Chief Superintendent Student Advisory Council (CSSAC) meeting of the 2025-26 school year, marking a moment to reflect on months of collaboration and student-centred discussion.

Throughout the school year, members have shared firsthand experiences, insights and ideas aimed at strengthening how student perspectives are invited, heard and acted upon in CBE schools.

At the concluding session, students reflected on their learning and discussed what they valued most about their participation in CSSAC directly with Chief Superintendent Joanne Pitman, highlighting the issues that matter most to them as learners.

“This group of students explored the question ‘What needs to be true at every high school so that each learner is known and supported’” says Chief Superintendent, Joanne Pitman. “I’m so grateful to have had the time with them to engage in big picture thinking and for each of them to know that their voice has impact.”

The work of CSSAC this year closely aligned with the CBE’s broader commitment to elevating student voice through open dialogue and honest reflection and creating opportunities for students to share valuable insights that are helping the system better understand what students need to succeed and feel a sense of belonging.

As the end of the school year draws near, the impact of the council’s work is expected to extend beyond the classroom, with student leaders continuing to play an active role in their schools and communities.
