Hello to our Western families,

As we finish our second week of regular classes, our students and staff are settling into a rhythm, as course content is delivered, assessments start to be turned in, and extra-curricular activities start to pick up.  While this is part of the regular routine of high school, we understand that it can come with questions, pressures, and even some anxiety at times.  With that in mind, I would direct you to our school website, where staff emails can be found, should you need to contact a teacher.

Meet the Teacher

I would also invite you to our Meet the Teacher evening next Thursday, September 21st, from 6:30-8:00 pm.  While all are invited, we believe that our grade 10 parents would benefit the most from this opportunity.  We will not be printing timetables that night, so please check PowerSchool for a list of your student’s Semester 1 teachers and room numbers.  I will also remind everybody that there is limited parking at/around Western, so please build in some time to find a spot and still get in to the building for 6:30.  We have requested parking relaxation on streets immediately adjacent to the school. Please see the attachment for more detailed information.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing (some of) you next week.

Brown Bag Lunches

Western receives support from the Brown Bagging 4 Calgary Kids program.  Families that need support with lunches can email jlmeier@cbe.ab.ca for more info.
Club Day
Many student Clubs and Associations have created videos for this coming Tuesday, promoting their activities and informing students on how to contact them to join in the fun. These videos will be made available for in class viewing and a prepared YouTube link will be shared and posted to the Student D2L and school website on Monday, September 18.

Club Day

Club Day itself will be hosted in two parts:

  • Part A - Period 1 classes are invited to preview the Club & Association video  starting at 11:05am on Tuesday, September 19th. This is especially valuable for Grade 10 classes so that new students to the school can get immersed in student life and community.
  • Part B - During lunch there will be a Club/Association "Market"  where students can tour and sign up for a variety of student Clubs & Associations. This way they can meet people and get engaged with each other.

The community and belonging that our student groups create at Western is a vital part of our school culture. Please encourage your child to attend and get involved.
