Dear Families,
We had another exciting week here at Western. Club day was widely attended on Tuesday and a great success. Students did an excellent job preparing their displays and recruiting new members. Many students signed up to various clubs and those that were not able to attend will be able to see the updated list of clubs and contacts, for the 2023/2024 school year, next week on our website. It was wonderful on Thursday to meet so many of you at this year’s Meet the Teacher night. For those that could come, we hope that you had a pleasant experience exploring the school and meeting your child’s teachers. It was also great to see both our Senior and Junior Girl’s Volleyball teams defeat Dr. E.P. Scarlett in our gym last night! A congratulations to our Senior Boys Volleyball team as well for their win over Bowness earlier in the week. Please see below for other important information:
School Council Meeting Coming Up!
Please join the WCHS Parent Council Executive for our first General Council meeting on Thursday, September 28, 2023 @ 6:30pm - Virtual
Guidance Counsellor Albert Chieng will present on everything parents need to know to support their children applying for Post-Secondary education. Additionally, our new principal Darren Whitbread will provide an update and the floor will be open to take parent questions.

Orange Shirt Day
In honour of the September 30th National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Western Canada High School will designate Thursday, September 28th as Orange Shirt Day at the school. This is a day to reflect on the legacy of residential schools and the experiences of survivors. Students and staff are encouraged to wear an orange shirt on that day in support of the work on Truth and Reconciliation. September 29th will be a day off for students and staff in lieu of the September 30th national holiday.
Those that are interested in attending an event on September 30th are encouraged to visit the following events:

Reporting Absences
Dear families,
Reporting you child's absence from school can be done by calling 403 228 5363
- Then pressing 1
- Please spell the student’s last name, date of absence and the time they will be away.
If your student is leaving for an appointment, the process is the same. We would also ask that the student come down to the office, sign out on the student sign out sheet, then head out to their appointment. - If there has been a mistake in recording your student's absence on a previous date, the process is the same for reporting.
- You may access your student's attendance records through your Power School account to verify dates and classes.
- Attendance calls that come into the office will be transferred to the attendance line.
