Western Canada Robotics Club 2025-2026:
Behind the scenes of the 2025-2026 robotics season, Western Canada High School’s V5RC Robotics Club has been dedicating countless hours of its time towards developing competitive robots. Through many weeks and constant preparation, we are now pleased to celebrate our members for all the hard work, creativity, and innovation they have consistently demonstrated and invested in the success of their builds as we wrap up this season.
One major setback we would like to acknowledge is the postponed start of the season at the beginning due to the Alberta Teachers’ Strike. This reduced the time dedicated to planning and designing at the beginning of the year, making it more challenging for our new team members to adjust to the new season. Despite starting off the season with most teams being new to VEX, all 11 of our teams persevered and managed to attend their first tournament, the STEM Innovation V5RC Robotics Tournament, and most of which qualified for the elimination bracket that evening.
Through reflecting upon our previous performance, members completely redesigned the mechanical aspects of their robots, allowing them to approach the next tournament with elevated confidence and a newly designed robot. At the start of February, Mecha Mayhem, hosted by the Western Mechatronics Club, marked the second competition our club attended.
The hard work of our teams paid off. Team 3300D, Barrel Monkeys: consisting of Richard C., Josh C., Aamir J., Ryan Q., and Max L. advanced to the second quarterfinal alongside 3388A from Sir Winston Churchill. Team 3300A, Event Horizon: consisting of David A., Stella F., Oliver K., and Jeannie Y., placed 8th in competition and secured 4th place in Alberta for skills at the time during this competition.
Our season concluded at Provincials, hosted by STEM, where eight of our teams qualified to compete. We would also like to recognize the students who participated with Western Mechatronics this season and who mentored our members throughout the year. We are proud to share that they earned a spot at the World Championship in St. Louis. Congratulations to Team 210K, consisting of Brandon K., Ethan K., and Bryan Z., and Team 210Z, consisting of Alex S., on their advancement.
We would also like to congratulate our team, 3300A Event Horizon, for the awards they earned at competitions outside of those attended by the club. These achievements include the Judges Award and Amaze Award at Western Mechatronics, as well as Tournament Finalists at STEM Collegiate in Edmonton. As only their second year competing in VEX Robotics, we are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and are honoured to have them represent our club.
From November through the end of February, we are incredibly proud of every team and individual member who dedicated their time and effort to being part of this robotics community. This season has been truly memorable, and we appreciate every individual who contributed to the strong, supportive community we are proud to be a part of.
Congratulations, members!
